Several cities along Iran's southern coast rocked - US new attacks. Trump: Revenge for bombing of merchant ships

The US military launched new strikes on Iran to keep the Strait of Hormuz open to shipping, prompting Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain in the latest escalation to thwart efforts to end the war.
The latest round of strikes, which the US said were carried out in response to Tuesday's attack on three cargo ships transiting the strait, came hours after President Donald Trump said he believed a temporary ceasefire with Iran was "over."
"US Central Command forces have begun conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," the US military's Middle East command said.
"The United States is holding Iran accountable for its recent unprovoked aggression against merchant ships and civilian crews navigating freely in a vital international waterway."
The US strikes rocked several cities along Iran's southern coast and left some areas without electricity. Iran responded with a second day of attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, both of which host US military bases.
Kuwait's Defense Ministry said it was intercepting missiles and drones, while Qatar briefly issued an alert of "increased security threat" before later giving permission.
US strikes against Iran are expected to be more numerous than those carried out on Tuesday, a US official told Reuters.
"This is in retaliation for yesterday's bombing of the ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will be much worse!" Trump wrote.
Control of the strait, through which a fifth of global oil supplies passed before the war, has given Tehran enormous leverage, effectively allowing it to drive a wedge with the world's most powerful military. While Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on the ships, analysts say Tehran uses such actions to gain leverage in negotiations.
